TEACHING PRACTICE – Classroom Management

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Before, i share about how i manage times and activity in my teaching times.
Now, how we make sure the classroom is ready for each activity in each stages?

In two or three meeting in your class, you can see which student who doesn’t pay attention to you, who need a lot of attention, and who always active in the class. So, this is my strategies to manage the classroom.

In my teaching days in Udonpittayanukoon, i used to observe the characteristic of each students. I observe the class, ask my mentor or another teacher and try to teach. This is important to know your audience in your teaching moments.

If there is any students who doesn’t pay attenttion, you can ask them a question when you teach. But in this case, you must know all of their name. If it possible, don’t say the students by ” You Guys” or ” You / Khun”, call their nickname or full name if you remember, it will gain more respect to you.

In the class, you must not stand in one place when you teach. Move around and make eye contact with the students is also important skill of teaching. It’s so hard for the first time because it’s so nervous. By approaching the “lazy” students, you can also get their attention, so move your body.

In theory, you can ask random students to answer the concept in each slides. Make sure each of students has been asked in your meeting, don’t ask one person too much because he/she is the clever students.

Make sure use of Technology wisely

In Student Activity, make sure you create group evenly. Don’t point out the clever students with another clever students, mix the lazy one with clever students. In my experience, you can give them more roles in student activity but don’t ask them too much. The good student activity is the one which all of students can participated.

If you know about learning styles which is Visual, Kinesthetic and Auditorial you can change your teaching style too!

Use a lot of mixed color of ink / pen (Interactive Whiteboard) to gain a lot of attention of the Visual Learners, train our handwriting in the whiteboard is important skill for teacher (even in 21st century!)

Your voice, articulation and intonation must be clearly heared by the Auditorial Learners, make sure they sit in the front row of the class to hear you clearly.

If you find student who cannot stop walking, playing something or doing something, ask them to come forward and make them become your personal assistance in demonstrating something.

My conclusion about classroom management is we need to understand about this thing :
1. Understand each students learning style, their characteristic and their potential.
2. Your weakness and strength in teaching.
3. Gains students attention, transfer the knowledge, develops their affective, and know the moments in your teaching times.

So, then how about your classroom management?
Next, i do have a lot of PROBLEMS from students, how can i solve it?
Best Regards,
