TEACHING PRACTICE – Its time to be a Teacher!

Let’s be a “LOTUS”

– Refer to Be Dazzled in Red Lotus Sea

After we create our Teaching Plans (Lesson Plans), we are ready to teach students! This HeartBeat-Rising moment is come! Let’s discuss more detail information from my previous post ” Touching the Heart by Teaching – First Time Teach! “. Read along future teacher!

PROCEDURES OF TEACHING
In my lesson plans, i have describes every steps in my teaching procedures which consist of three stages : PRE-TASK / INITIATION, MAIN ACTIVITY, CLOSURE.

Role-Playing Student Activity

PRE-TASK / INITIATION
In this stage, i usually greet students and check their attendances. After that i ask them about previous topics (aperception) to recall the last knowledge.
For motivates students to learn, i used to show them a videos or a question in the power point slides ” Why do monkey needs to eat? “.
The students who can answer will be appreciated, and then link the answer into the main Topics.
I usually tell them about learning’s goals by showing them the main questions about the topics in power point slides.

This stage is important to create good vibes in the class, to encourage them to learn enthusiastically, and attract students attention. Remember, First Impression is Important! Sometimes, i used to play minigames or clap-games to gain their attention (It works in Afternoon Class)

MAIN ACTIVITY
This stage is more challenging because you need to transfer the knowledge, and also touch their heart! Make them become more human and enjoy the learning activity.

When i teach a new concept, i usually use my presentation slides. Why? Because it’s more concrete than to imagine something.
Make sure you add a lot of pictures/ gif with the concept example in the slides. But if you have an actual object or you can demonstrate the process / phenomena, USE IT! It will more gain students attention.

After a few slides, you can add “Break Slides” to keep students still focus (not too many knowledge), and add “Questions Slides” to check students understanding and misconceptions.
My mentor also ask me to keep it slow when teaching with power point, it’s important to make students write the keyword of each concepts, so they can review it later.

You can read, learn and download all of my Power Point Presentation in here :

The enjoyable moments is when Student Activty is held. You change your approachment from Teacher-Centered Learning into Student-Centered Learning. Make sure you make this time is much longer than the theory, because what? Students are easily boring with teacher lectures.

In my SEA-Teacher program, i develop a few methods in Student Activities which make students more active in the class. These methods are :
a. QR Codes Learning
b. Flash Animation Learning
c. Make and Match
d. QR Codes and Role Playing Games
e. Guess The Word!

You can adapt this method or maybe enhance it with your own creativity!
Don’t forget the time when you use a Student Activity.

CLOSURE
In the last stage, usually i give students a chance to ask a question and conclude about today’s lesson. You can give them appreciation if they ask or conclude the topics, maybe you can give them some gift from your hometown. Surely they will like it!

Don’t forget to strengthen the conclusion, give them reinforcement of the concept, and correct the answer if there is a wrong answer. Don’t judge them, give appreciation.
The last is inform them about next meeting activity, or maybe you can give them a homework or post-test if there is any time.

For me, sometimes i give them a few questions through Post-Test, to make sure they understand the concept.
I design the test through QR Code, so they can fill it even the times is running out, and is paperless! Learn it in : QR Codes Test! Paperless!
